Staff Accountant

Minnesota Children's Museum is looking for a Staff Accountant to be part of a 4-person Finance team responsible for supporting the financial affairs of the organization.

This position is an individual contributor role and does not supervise staff. An ideal candidate is someone who has a desire to roll up their sleeves, and dig into the details while keeping the big picture in mind. 

Major Job Accountabilities:

  • Provide financial analysis and reports for various aspects of Museum operations to internal and external users.
  • Complete and support month-end process
  • Maintain company’s financial plans, accounting practices, internal controls, relationships with banking, lending and investment institutions, maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.
  • Prepare and complete bi-weekly payroll process
  • Complete complex tasks in the following areas: cash, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, sales tax, etc.
  • Prepare account reconciliations on a routine basis
  • Prepare supporting documentation as needed for annual audit.
  • Special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Accountability Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor internal controls and accounting system modules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, macros, VLOOKUP, charts, and graphs.).
  • Intermediate skills in the use of general ledger system including generation and use of reports.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent team skills, both as participant and leader.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to prioritize, focus and project manage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years of Accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to the management of accounting processes and financial reporting.
  • Exposure to managing internal controls
