Security Guard (PT)

MN Children's Museum will be at the U of M Job Fair on February 26th!  They will be located at booth E24 and conducting interviews for this position.  This job fair is open to all enrolled University of Minnesota students -- both undergraduate and graduate -- and alumni who graduated in the past three years (2015 - 2017).

This is a security position like no other! Minnesota Children's Museum’s Security Guards play an important role in keeping the museum a safe and secure environment for all guests and staff. You do not need to have prior security experience to apply for this position. We are looking for candidates who are able to provide exceptional customer service to anyone who walks through our doors, who can assess and deescalate emergency situations in a calm manner, and someone who can follow set protocol in running various building and internal systems.

MCM is known as providing exceptional customer service and a safe place to visit. We have developed extensive training in order to bring all new employees to the level they need to be successful in their role.   

Part-time, 10-20 hours/week. Every other weekend and some evenings required
Starting rate of pay is $12.00

Major Job Accountabilities:

  • Monitoring of all building activities both interior and exterior via electronic security system
  • Periodic rounds of the building and grounds
  • Monitoring life safety systems
  • Ensuring security of all entrances/exits
  • Opening and closing the facility as needed
  • Monitoring access to building's loading dock area
  • Maintaining records of all deliveries
  • Serving as a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and previous security experience is desired.
  • Successful candidates must also possess First Response/First Aid/CPR certifications (or be willing to get them).
  • Some computer experience required.
  • Applicants must be self-starters, creative and problem-solvers.
  • Individuals must have the ability to interact effectively and positively with Museum patrons and staff, and be able to deal with the public in a professional, effective and tactful manner.
  • This individual must be organized, self-motivated and able to work calmly in a busy environment, as well as maintain confidentiality.
  • References from previous work experience are required.
  • Weekends required, weekdays as needed.
