In-home Autism Practitioner

Job Description:

Program Summary: The Autism Spectrum Disorder Support Services (ASDSS) program at St. David’s Center is offered exclusively through Medica insurance. The ASDSS program provides home-and community-based support for children/adolescents between the ages of 2-26 on the autism spectrum and their families. A service plan is developed for each family that includes one-on-one goal-directed service promoting individualized skill development, group sessions aimed at strengthening social skills, and parent education and training.
Position Overview: St. David’s Center is hiring part-time Mental Health Practitioners to provide one-on-one therapeutic work in ASDSS client homes and communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable in-home experience while having a direct impact on a child with autism spectrum disorder. Although we serve clients throughout the Twin Cities Metro, the majority of current client openings are located in the West Metro areas, anywhere from Minneapolis to Rogers.
Responsibilities include:
  • Implementing treatment plans based on client’s skills, interests and needs using relationship-based interventions
  • Working on treatment goals such as managing social communication and emotional regulation
  • Collaborating with families/guardians to model behavior and provide support to reinforce goals within the home
  • Aiding clients in generalizing the skills they are working on in-home into their school and community settings, which may include taking clients into the community to practice skills

Schedule: 5-10 hours per week, depending on availability, with the opportunity to increase hours after 1-2 months in position. Hours are primarily late afternoon, evenings and weekends, though limited daytime hours are available. Applicants should be available at least one-two regular evenings per week plus have some weekend availability.
Pay: DOQ.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2,000 hours of related experience with proof of the hours OR a Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, psychology, occupational therapy, speech language pathology or a related degree from an accredited college/university. LGSW is required for MSW applicants.
  • Experience working with children with special needs, specifically autism, at some level. Candidates with a Master’s degree in occupational therapy or speech language pathology must have 2-3 years of experience as well as a current OT or SLP license.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
  • Understanding of and interest in developmental needs of autism spectrum disorders, including social, communication, behavior and emotional development
  • Must work well with children and adolescents, have strong problem-solving skills and take creative and flexible approaches to situations
  • Should be able to work independently and possess good verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong stress- and time- management skills
  • Experience or education in behavioral psychology and/or autism education
  • Knowledge of relationship-based models
