Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher

Job Description:

Program Summary: For more than 50 years, St. David’s Center has provided the highest quality of early childhood education to children ages 16 months - five years. We recognize that every child brings unique contributions and qualities to the classroom, and because of this, we use a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy where learning is guided collaboratively by children, teachers and environments that promote social and cognitive development through play.

Position Overview: The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Head Teacher in the planning and implementation of a classroom program designed to give each child an opportunity to participate in experiences that will enrich his/her development in a safe environment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Head Teacher in planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum that reflects a sound knowledge of the development of young children and follows the Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy
  • Contributing in planning classroom activities around themes or concepts that incorporate children’s interests to guide classroom direction
  • Aiding the Head Teacher in maintaining and organizing all records to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies
  • Assisting in creating a safe, developmentally appropriate, orderly, inviting and attractive learning environment that can be adapted to the ability levels of students in your classroom
  • Providing leadership and teaming that results in a cohesive classroom environment with collaborative staff and student relationships

Schedule: 30-40 hours per week, M-F

  •  DHS Assistant Teacher Qualified
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education & Child Development
  • DHS Head Teacher Qualified
  • Early Childhood teaching experience
  • Experience working with students with special education needs
  • Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia Approach
