Direct Support Professional: Community Residential Setting Services

Job Description:

Program Summary: St. David’s Center’s Community Residential Setting Services program is for adults with developmental disabilities who are ready to live independently but still require some caregiver support. Program goals include: helping clients maintain and improve independent living skills and presenting opportunities for clients to increase socialization, build relationships and experience community life.

Position Overview: St. David’s Center is hiring Direct Support Professionals to work with adult clients living in a variety of settings including apartments, condos and group homes. Client locations include St. Louis Park, Bloomington, Plymouth, Hopkins, Eden Prairie, Blaine and Ham Lake.

Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including assisting with physical, emotional, behavioral and personal care needs.
Depending on the client, responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in cooking well-balanced meals and completing household chores
  • Taking trips to the YMCA or other exercise classes, nature walks, runs to the grocery store, dances, cooking classes or other activities in the community
  • Helping with personal cares such as bathing or brushing teeth

This position offers experience working in the human services field with a variety of special needs diagnoses, the opportunity to build lasting, rewarding relationships and the chance to cultivate a higher level of independence for individuals with disabilities.

This position offers flexible scheduling! Direct care hours can vary from a short shift to extended periods such as overnights and weekends.

$12.00 per hour, DOQ. $9.65/hour sleep rate.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
  • Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both through written and verbal communication
  • Must be able to monitor the safety and well-being of client by managing, both verbally and physically, an active or behaviorally involved client
  • Post-secondary course work/education related to social or behavioral sciences, human services, or other fields appropriate for work with clients with developmental disabilities
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs
  • Knowledge of behavior management, community resources and developmental disabilities
