Destination...Anywhere! Support Staff

Job Description:

Program Summary: 
The goal of the Destination...Anywhere! program is to help developmentally disabled individuals make friends, become part of their community, experience new things and provide respite for families and caregivers. Participants in this program are at least 16 years old and able to demonstrate independent living skills.

Position Overview:
The Destination Anywhere Support Staff is responsible for providing services to clients in a group setting within the community. We are hiring Support Staff who will be supervising up to three participants, one weekend per month.
Responsibilities include:
  • Actively engaging with participants in activities/events and interactions
  • Encouraging peer interactions and positive behavior in community
  • Ensuring participant(s) safety in the community
  • Communication and emotional regulation
  • Transporting designated participant(s)
  • Providing overnight supervision to the participants
This position offers experience working in the human services field with a variety of special needs diagnoses, the opportunity to build lasting, rewarding relationships and the chance to cultivate a higher level of independence for individuals with disabilities.

One weekend per month (typically the first weekend of each month). Shift begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and ends at the latest on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

$12.00 per hour.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
  • Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English
  • One year experience with young adults with special needs
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities, safety in a group setting, community resources and activities
  • Ability to learn and perform procedures for the care of an individual with special needs
  • Effective communication, both through written and verbal
  • Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of the participant(s)
  • Organization and problem solving skills
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Training and/or credits in therapeutic recreation, recreation and leisure studies, social sciences, education, health care and/or human services
  •  One year of supervisory experience
