The Population Health Equity Intern in this position will provide support for major service delivery design and implementation in the area of population health. The Equity Intern will participate in various projects under the Office of Medicaid Medical Director (OMMD) and assist in the development of strategies to incorporate population health measures in public policy making.

Internship Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Assess population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities' health

• Evaluate policies for their impact on public health and health equity

• Demonstrate how to turn data into information and action to influence public health policies and programs

• Explain the effects of policies, programs, community-based interventions that promote improving health for different populations in communities

• Analyzing population-level data on enrollment and health outcomes for Minnesotans

• Assist in creation of a public outreach campaigns on health equity

• Create a virtual library of resources on health equity and participate in the development of a newsletter for OMMD

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have demonstrated significant experience with Outlook and Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Have acute attention to detail/accuracy and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well without direct supervision
  • Possess excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrate effective oral communication and active listening skills and are comfortable interacting with a variety of individuals via various methods (in-person, phone, email)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Pre-Medicine, Nursing, Psychology or related field
  • Writing/oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in diverse group


Additional Requirements

  • Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
  • Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
