Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, providing roughly 95 percent of the 65 million bus trips taken annually in the Twin Cities. Each weekday customers board Metro Transit buses an average of 200,000 times.
Metro Transit operates 109 routes -- 53 are local-service routes and 44 are express routes -- using a fleet of 888 buses. Metro Transit people
People associate Metro Transit with vehicles but our strength lies in the people who drive and maintain the buses, answer the phones and support our operations. Metro Transit employs 1,411 drivers (274 are part-time drivers), 426 mechanics and 389 administrative/clerical staff.
To ensure safety for our customers and drivers, Metro Transit has its own police department. Ten full-time and 114 part-time Metropolitan Transit Police officers enforce laws pertaining to safety on buses and at bus stops.
