Position Description
The system engineer position will assist in defining product features and system architectures for medical implantable device programming systems as part of the product development organization of the Medtronic Neurological Sector.
Position Responsibilities
The candidate will assist in the definition of programming system features for a variety of implantable medical device technologies. This includes cross functional team work with the research, marketing, and engineering teams to assure that the process yields high value features that are technically feasible and within project scope. The results will be documented as formal requirements, technical briefs describing tradeoffs and rationale, and other formal design documents.
As an aspect of this work, the candidate will be expected to build significant domain knowledge around implantable medical devices and their clinical use via customer interactions, field visits, and regular review of the relevant literature.
The candidate will also lead technical architecture activities for components of the programming system. This work includes functional and physical partitioning, establishing appropriate performance metrics, and driving to clear and well-documented interfaces. The responsibility extends to system verification, where the candidate may lead efforts to verify the operation of components in a system as they are integrated prior to project completion.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, System Engineering
Minimum of 5 years experience in the development of systems, in an engineering titled role.
Experience translatating user needs into formal requirements
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Medical industry experience
Regulated product development experience
Experience in developing products with a significant software component
Experience performing architectural design activities involving physical and functional partitioning of product features into design elements
Strong team facilitation and verbal and written presentation skills
Physical Job Requirements
Candidate must be able to sit/stand/walk for 8 hours a day
Computer/phone work 8 hrs/day.
