Sr Mechanical Design Engineer Requisition 63188 Category Engineering Business Neuromodulation Division Neurological Product Developmt Location USA-MN-Mpls-Columbia Heights Relocation Relocation eligibility to be determined Job Type Full Time - Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt Shift First Travel Percentage 0% Experience Required 5 years Education Required Bachelor of Engineering Position Description The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will support teams that are responsible for the design, development, evaluation and transfer to manufacturing of Implantable Neurostimulation Systems. The engineer will represent the Mechanical Development group as a core member of interdisciplinary project teams. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will develop innovative mechanical designs which are high performance, manufacturable, reliable and low cost, develop test methods for evaluating designs, conduct design reviews to ensure device quality, capability, functional requirements and cost, develop overall design and development schedule, timelines and resource requirements for completion of assigned tasks, work effectively in a team environment and function as both a team player and technical leader, provide technical leadership and/or expertise at a high level to ensure product development project success, serve as key technical interface with component suppliers, solicit and provide feedback to suppliers to build and maintain a strong and productive supplier relationship. Position Responsibilities •Responsible for small to medium projects with system responsibility, frequently requiring innovative and creative solutions to problems. •Plays integral role in creation of products or therapies, including enhancements to current products or therapies. •Consults with physician customers to understand patient needs and product requirements. •Works with vendors, and other Neuro functional groups to insure design concepts meet goals for cost, performance, reliability and manufacturability. •Ensure personal understanding of all quality policy/system items that are personally applicable. Follow all work/quality procedures to ensure quality system compliance and high quality work. •Ensure the business’ quality policy/system is planned, understood, implemented and maintained in the business. •Participates in periodic management reviews of the quality system to ensure overall compliance as well as appropriate resources are available to effectively maintain the business’ quality system (people, facilities, tools, and training) Basic Qualifications •BS Mechanical Engineering •5 years experience minimum •Excellent mechanical design aptitude/skills. •Ability to produce designs which are high performance, low cost and easily manufactured. •Good analytical - mathematical modeling skills. •Ability to work independently. •Willingness to challenge the status quo. •Knowledge of quality and statistical methods. •Ability to work in a team environment and lead other professionals. •Good organizational, technical writing, and presentation skills. Desired/Preferred Qualifications •MS Mechanical Engingeering with Medical device engineering experience. •Detailed knowledge of drug infusion systems, or implantable leads. •Experience with the development of high reliability devices. •A good understanding of anatomy and neuroscience. •Knowledge of metal and polymer materials science. •Knowledge of conducting animal studies. •Experience with analytical engineering analysis and tolerance analysis methods. •Experience with DFMA methods and FDA design controls.
