Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, providing roughly 95 percent of the 73 million bus trips taken annually in the Twin Cities. Each weekday customers board Metro Transit buses and trains an average of 240,000 times. The Hiawatha light rail division consists of a fleet of 27 light-rail cars. It operates on 12 miles of track serving 17 stations. The line operates between downtown Minneapolis, the airport, and ends at the largest shopping mall in America, the Mall of America. Average weekday ridership in 2006 was 29,900.
We are seeking several Electro Mechanical Technician to maintain mechanical, electrical/electronic, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems of light rail vehicles and performs maintenance and repair of all light rail system support equipment; follow standards and regulations for safe and reliable operation of equipment
Examples of Duties:
* Repairs of electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic systems light rail vehicles.
* Repairs of HVAC and communication systems.
* Performs schematic and blueprint reading; electrical/electronic chart recording interpretation.
* Performs computer data entry in order to communication of project status through various mediums.
* Repairs of door system and pneumatics system.
* Operates LRV operation during yard testing.
* Performs cab and interior repair.
* Performs Hegenscheidt, wheel axle press and tire press operation.
* Performs rebuild for electrical/electronic, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems components.
* Attends safety and training meetings; participate in emergency preparedness systems.
* Operates light rail vehicle, hi-rail, re-rail equipment, and forklifts.
* Performs electrification/distribution lock out procedure consistent with established safety protocol.
* Performs other related duties.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Associate's degree in electronic technology plus two (2) years experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of electro-mechanical transportation equipment.
Equivalency: High school graduate or equivalent and four (4) years experience in the maintenance and repair of electrically powered transit vehicles and/or maintenance and repair of light rail vehicles, or maintenance and repair of heavy duty electro-mechanical systems, such as buses, semi-truck and aircraft.
License Requirement:
* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as defined below.
* Ability to get a Class A CDL Driver’s License within twenty-one (21) working days of hire. Permits for Class A CDL required at the time of interview. Permits include: (combination vehicle, general knowledge, air brake, and pre-trip and passenger endorsement) Training and testing will be provided. License will be issued upon successfully passing road test.
Motor Vehicle Record Standards – Disqualification for any of the following convictions:
* More than 1 moving violation in the past 12 months
* More than 2 moving violations in the past 24 months
* Within the past three years. The applicant cannot have refused to comply with the State’s implied consent
* Within the past three years CANNOT have any of the following convictions:
1. More than 3 moving violations
2. DWI conviction
3. Careless or reckless driving
4. Open bottle
5. Leaving the scene of an accident
6. Driving after suspension/withdrawal/revocation
7. Committing a felony while operating a motor vehicle
8. Violating state or local law other than parking violations, arising in connection with a fatal accident
9. Refusing to comply with implied consent law
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Basic knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, principles of analog and digital electronics, electronic control circuitry and associated mechanical, HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, testing and inspections methods/tools, basic welding skills.
* Ability to perform maintenance repair, troubleshooting, rebuild and overhaul of rail transit vehicles and sub-systems.
* Ability to analyze malfunctions in the electrical/electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment and determine repair and perform electronic fabrication and assembly tasks.
* Ability to use electronic tools/computers to diagnose or troubleshoot electrical problems.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate in English.
