Metro Transit is currently accepting applications for part-time bus operators:
Weekday: Metro Transit's part-time weekday bus operators receive five (5) to six (6) weeks of both in-class and on the road training. Operator trainees are paid at the starting wage rate upon their first day of training. Once training is successfully completed, a part-time weekday operator is guaranteed thirty (30) hours of work per week. Part-time operators work split shifts which includes both morning and evening rush hours.
Weekend and Holiday: Metro Transit's part-time weekend and holiday bus operators receive ten(10) to twelve (12) weeks of both in-class and on the road training. Operator trainees are paid at the starting wage rate upon their first day of training. Once training is successfully completed, a part-time weekend operator will work all weekends and holidays.
Note: Full-time bus operator positions are available only to part-time bus opertors, in seniority order, based upon application to the Part-Time to Full-Time Seniority pool.
Metro Transit's bus operators are responsible for the overall safe, timely and effective operation of their buses. Bus operators complete pre-trip and post trip inspections, demonstrate a defensive driving style, and possess knowledge of and adherence to Metro Transit's routes and schedules. The bus operator is also responsible for providing excellent customer service, monitoring the internal and external environment of the bus, utilizing fare tools, and anticipating and mediating rider issues. The bus operator also checks for and maintains safety of the bus in varying traffic and road conditions. This is a time sensitive position.
Examples of Duties:
# Performing pre-trip bus inspections.
# Completing inside and outside inspections.
# Safely operating the bus according to pre-determined routes and schedules.
# Courteously greeting all passengers and maintaining good customer relations at all times.
# Collecting fares and transfers from passengers.
# Courteously answers passengers' questions concerning fares, schedules, and other transit related matters
# Completes all required forms and paperwork.
# Calls out streets while driving.
# At each lay over or end of route, repeats inside and outside inspections.
# Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
# Minimum of 18 years of age.
# Active licensed driver for the last two (2) years with a good driving record.
# Minimum two (2) years of verifiable full time (or equivalent part time) work experience.
# Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate clearly in English.
# Valid Minnesota or Wisconsin driver’s license.
# Four (4) Commercial Driver License (CDL) Endorsements: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Pre-Trip and Passenger Transport or possess a valid CDL-endorsed driver’s license with no restrictions
Candidates will be disqualified if their driving record includes any of the following charges:
# More than 1 moving violation in the past twelve (12) months,
# More than 2 moving violations in the past twenty four (24) months,
# Any of the following charges in the past thirty six (36) months:
# More than three (3) moving violations
# DWI/DUI conviction
# Careless or reckless driving
# Open-bottle
# Leaving the scene of an accident
# Driving after suspension/withdrawl/revocation of license
# Committing a felony while operating a motor vehicle
# Refusing to comply with open consent
# Violating state or local law (other than parking violations) arising in connection with a fatal accident.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
# Knowledge of relevant state and local traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involving the opertion of transit vehicles.
# Knowledge of vehicle safety rules and regulations
# Ability to operate Metro Transit vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
# Ability to work independently in a highly time-sensitive environment.
# Ability to excercise sound judgment in stressful situations.
# Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
# Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with diverse customers.
# Ability to work variable shifts and irregular hours. |
