"What is your work personality? Take this great mini-quiz to get at the heart of your "work personality.""

Who Are You?

Good Question! Below is a mini-quiz meant to get at the heart of your “work personality”. Select one of the four answers below each question that is most like you. A brief discussion of results will follow!

  1. I am most motivated at work when:

    1. Things are moving at a normal pace.

    2. Things get really busy- people everywhere!

    3. Things are a little slow and I can focus.

    4. I am the only one around and it’s all up to me.

  2. I usually like tasks that are:

    1. Fairly routine and predictable and get done within a day.

    2. Varied & sometimes I have to multi-task to get things done.

    3. I can plan it out and have a time-line all figured out for the day.

    4. It is all my responsibility- beginning to end no matter how long it takes.

  3. The job I would most like to tackle if I had to pick one would be:

    1. Getting a mailing out to all those interested in a camping trip.

    2. Coordinating a group of people to participate in the camping trip.

    3. Finding locations for the camping trip- based on what they can offer. Or maybe rounding up the equipment at the center for it.

    4. Selecting the location and mapping out all the details for the mailing to patrons.

  4. What really bugs me is:

    1. When some little thing breaks my pattern.

    2. When someone is too slow or not doing something right.

    3. When things are done in such a hurry- we’re not sure if it’s done right!

    4. When there are too many people to rely on to get something done.

  5. My co-workers could describe my best trait as:

    1. Goal-oriented

    2. Natural leader

    3. Dependable

    4. Thorough

  6. My co-workers could tease me about this trait:

    1. Stubborn

    2. Bossy

    3. Picky

    4. Worry-wart

  7. This is my basic preferred work philosophy:

    1. Knowing what I am expected to do, when I am going to have a break and having a final end time. I will work hard and be responsible.

    2. Having a loosely scheduled day with many activities. I am not concerned about when my breaks are- keeping all engines running is very important to me and I will do what it takes to see it all come together from everyone.

    3. I like to stay focused on one thing- that way I can plan ahead. Doing things right the first time is important- this is time-efficient. Rushing to get something done can cause problems down the road..

    4. I would like to see a project from beginning to end and get all the information to those who need it. I am good at what I do. I feel responsible for my work. I want to be a part of the whole picture- not hand it off to someone else and let them take over.

  8. When I am stressed at work, I tend to:

    1. Use my breaks to sit back, maybe take a walk. As long as I have my time to get away, I am okay.

    2. I might work harder. Or find people to talk about it.

    3. If things get too rushed, I feel like screaming on the inside. I may exercise later to work off some steam.

    4. I worry about everything and get myself worked up. I sometimes take my stress home.

  9. Training sessions, to me, are:

    1. Okay, as long as it does not run too long or interfere with other activities

    2. A way to network and improve the work environment- I like them if they’re fun.

    3. Okay, as long as it serves a clear purpose

    4. A way to overcome issues in the workplace and let everyone be clear about their jobs.

  10. I really am looking for:

    1. A comfortable way of life

    2. An exciting way of life

    3. A meaningful way of life

    4. A responsible way of life

Below is a basic guideline for personalities based on the quiz you took. Very few people are completely one way or another. If you mostly answered the same letter, you have tendencies toward a particular personality type. Please use this information as a way to see yourself better and apply yourself more effectively in your job.

IF YOU MOSTLY ANSWERED “A”
You like a predicable day. You like to be able to have lunch at the same time every day and leave at 5 pm sharp if that is what is expected of you. You take pride in your work and can be depended upon to take responsibilities seriously. It would be a hardship for you to stay an hour late at work because you have other things you must attend to. You are organized and know the facts, making you an excellent person for answering questions, scheduling events, working a front desk, and inventorying equipment.

IN YOU MOSTLY ANSWERED “B”
Someday, you’re going to be the supervisor. In the supervisor’s absence, you’re the one people look to. If there is to be a cancellation and re-organizing of events, you’re cool enough to get things turned around. A busy environment keeps you going to the point you don’t know what time it is. You can invigorate a group and get people thinking. You are a great person for customer service, team leader, coach, office manager, coordinator of events, or other types of positions that put you in the spotlight.

IF YOU MOSTLY ANSWERED “C”
You are the planner and maintainer- if someone needs to work with a bunch of data, numbers, schedules, personnel records, equipment- you can do it! You work like clockwork to move a project through and are happy to hand it off once your portion is done. There is no doubt about your accuracy- making you an excellent business office worker, human resources (payroll, accounts), construction/maintenance or cashiering. You might also be good at graphics, charts or even building or fixing things. You can see things in your head and get them into the tangible.

IF YOU MOSTLY ANSWERED “D”
You can see the big picture- you always ask yourself, “How will this affect everyone?” You are caring about your work and those around you. Every office needs someone like you to make sure no one’s toes get stepped on or forgotten. You also believe in recognizing good efforts, too. You fit in everywhere- you can be skilled in a variety of different areas as long as your work is not repetitious. You like to have a stake in what ever is going on and contribute your fair share. You are good on committees. You could be in charge of tasks in an office or other services the center provides. You will always seek to improve an unsatisfactory situation right away- good customer service!
