"The one mistake that many people make while attending career fairs is that they did not prepare for it beforehand."

The one mistake that many people make while attending career fairs is that they did not prepare for it beforehand. They assume that showing up with copies of their resume is good enough. The reason this really does not cut it these days is because of the huge amount of job seekers attending fairs. They know that jobs are tough to come by, so more people are seeing the advantage of job fairs. The first thing you should do to prepare is to make a plan. The majority of job fairs actually post online the different companies that will be attending. It is a great idea to review this list can find the companies you want to visit. This will eliminate a lot of time searching around at the fair.

Another way to prepare for a career fair is something you actually do when you prepare for a job interview. You want to do your homework on the companies you want to visit. This is important in the event that you get a quick five-minute interview with them. You want to actually know what the company does and what they are about. The only way to do this is to visit their web site prior to the fair. This also is a great time to think of some questions you can ask as well. This will prove to them that you took the time to research the company. It may take some time to research all the companies you want to visit, but it will be worth it when you get a job.

You also want to practice before you attend a career fair. You basically are selling yourself when you are at a fair, so it is a good idea to know what you are going to say. You do not want to be stumbling on your words in front of other job seekers. They will be able to use that to their advantage, especially if they practiced beforehand. This does not have to be something long or difficult. All you want is a short speech that lists your skill sets and experience.

The final way to prepare yourself for a career fair is in the way you look. Even if you still are in college while you are attending, it is unacceptable to show up in jeans and casual shirts. You need to dress the part of a business professional. This also includes carrying a brief case or similar bag to hold at least 25 copies of your resume. You need to act as if you were on a job interview for your best shot at getting an actual interview, which will hopefully result in a new job!
